A Protected Gathering in the Rafters (We Are Closed!)
Dearest beautiful souls,
Billi Jene here, welcoming you to the very first edition of our community update. Mandel and I were looking forward to serving you our signature herbal blends this week, but the local ecosystem has chosen our ceiling as the epicenter for a major spiritual gathering.
We have encountered a slight logistical knot regarding the local fauna, which means our physical space must remain dark for the time being.
We are temporarily CLOSED.
Here is the breakdown of the wild energy currently occupying our dining room:
The Unexpected Colonization
Over the weekend, a magnificent colony of Ozark Big-Eared Bats decided to migrate directly into the exposed wooden beams right above our main service counter. They are beautiful, velvety creatures with incredible auditory receptors, but their presence makes operating a loud espresso machine a bit of a diplomatic nightmare.
The Legal Standoff
Mandel immediately suggested we use a broom to gently encourage them to find a nice cave down by the river. However, a very stern representative from the Department of Conservation informed us that these bats are a strictly protected endangered species. Legally speaking, we cannot touch them, smoke them out, or vibrate them away with acoustic bowls. We installed professional one-way wildlife excluders to let them leave peacefully, but these clever little guys keep finding tiny structural vulnerabilities in our roof and marching right back inside.
The Food Safety Boundaries
To ensure absolute harmony and respect our local health codes, we have spent the last forty-eight hours erecting massive, heavy-duty plastic tarps across the entire cafe. These physical barriers are designed to partition the guest areas and ensure our food and beverage preparation zones are probably not contaminated with bat droppings. Mandel thinks the word "probably" leaves too much room for interpretation, but I believe in trusting the universe.
The Health Verification
For those worried about the biological energy in the room, please rest easy. The colony has been officially evaluated by government wildlife officials and certified to be one hundred percent rabies-free. They have made physical contact and bitten a few customers during our initial scramble, but none of them successfully broke the skin. They are simply testing our boundaries.
Mandel’s Current State
Mandel is handling the situation with his usual lack of grace. He is furious that a group of mammals with wings has more federal squatting rights than a legal co-owner of a business. He has been glaring at the ceiling rafters so intensely that his pickling juice is starting to cloud over with pure resentment.
What happens next?
We are currently waiting on a specialized wildlife mediator to help us draft a peaceful coexistence strategy that satisfies both the federal government and the local health inspector. Until the bats decide to vacate or the plastic tarps are certified as an official architectural feature, we must remain a visual-only sanctuary.
Please keep your third eye open, watch your head if you walk past our front windows, and remember that we are all just guests on this planet.
In mammalian harmony,
— Billi Jene Taylor & Mandel (Husband #9)
