A Bureaucratic Hex Upon Our Sanctuary (We Are Still Closed!)
Dearest gentle hearts and beautiful souls,
Billi Jene here again, channeling an extra dose of root-chakra grounding energy today because, frankly, the earthly realm is testing my spirit.
Mandel and I were so ready to unlock the doors this week. The Kansas ice machine hostage crisis has been temporarily paused, as Mandel finally agreed to stop plotting the motorcycle heist for now. However, the universe has revealed a massive paperwork knot that we must untangle before we can legally brew you a single cup of matcha.
We are, regrettably, still CLOSED.
Here is the spiritual roadblock we are currently facing:
The Permit Poltergeist
When we filed for our annual Health and Safety Operational Certificate, the county office noticed a glaring discrepancy. It turns out our initial business license was filled out under the legal name of my eighth husband, Donny "Vortex" Jenkins.
The Bureaucratic Standoff
The county clerk—a woman named Brenda who clearly has a blocked throat chakra—insists that only Donny can sign the amendment to transfer the license to Mandel. Until Brenda gets that physical signature, the state views our espresso machine as a rogue, un-permitted steam weapon.
The Missing Husband Problem
Here is the hitch: I haven’t seen Donny since our marriage dissolved during the Summer Solstice of 2014. The split was technically amicable, happening right around the time Donny suddenly decided his aura needed to "vibrate eternally beneath the floorboards of the old barn." He vanished into the woods that very night, leaving behind his wallet, his shoes, and his favorite crystal pendulum. He has not been seen since. Mandel says we shouldn't dig too deep into the past, but the county is being very stubborn about requiring a signature from a man who may or may not be part of the local ecosystem now.
Mandel’s Current State
Mandel is absolutely beside himself. Well, technically he is beside the cash register, but his brine is practically boiling. He feels it is a direct insult to his status as Husband #9 that Husband #8’s legal ghost is keeping him from running his business. He keeps making intense bubbling noises every time the police department drives past the cafe, which I’m sure is just a coincidence.
What happens next?
Tomorrow morning, I am going to sit on the floor of the county permitting office and perform a long-distance telepathic manifestation ritual to guide Donny's spirit—wherever it may be buried—toward a notary public. Mandel will be supervising from his travel tote.
Until Donny signs the papers, or the statute of limitations on missing persons runs out, please stay patient, stay caffeinated at home, and remember to check your basements for positive energy.
With cosmic resilience,
— Billi Jene Taylor & Mandel (Husband #9)
